Housing Boot Camp

Start here!

Welcome to AHP’s Housing Boot Camp! This is where you should start in your housing journey. These are our most essential resources and activities in the order in which we believe it is most beneficial to complete them. Many of these are free.

Why think about housing now? Some of the reasons to start planning when your family member is 18-22 years old.

Free resources:

Getting on the road to housing

Turning 18 checklist

Housing in a month’s worth of Tweets

Webinar: Thinking about housing

Webinar: Applying for housing

Preparing your family member

Fee-for-service resources:

Individualized housing counseling, including:

  • 18th Birthday Club.
  • Housing consultation. (A one-time free 30 minute phone call is available and some free options may be available by booking through our institutional members.)
  • Housing application assistance. (Section 8 assistance may be available by booking through our institutional members.)
  • Person-centered planning. [It is generally a good idea to participate in Learning about housing (see below) prior to engaging in person-centered planning.]

Learning about housing (a five-part Zoom series, formerly the daylong workshop)

Still not sure you need to think about housing now? Check out our blog post (updated in 2022), “Housing? I’ll think about that tomorrow . . .“
